Howard M. Heys is a prominent cryptographer and retired professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research focuses on the design and analysis of cryptographic systems, specifically stream and block ciphers, including work on efficient hardware implementations. Notably, he was involved in the design of CAST-256 and has published critical analyses of various ciphers. Heys has also co-chaired significant cryptography workshops and earned his Ph.D. from Queen's University in 1994, residing now in St. John's, Newfoundland with his family.
