Hovhanes Baroyan was an Armenian epidemiologist and virologist, born on December 24, 1906, in Yerevan, then part of the Caucasus Viceroyalty in the Russian Empire. He obtained his Doctor of Medical Sciences in 1953 and became a Professor in 1959. In 1965, he was elected as an academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, and in 1966, he was recognized as a Distinguished Scientist of the Armenian SSR. He passed away on September 27, 1985, in Moscow, USSR.
