Hōsaku Shinohara was a Japanese haiku poet born on January 7, 1906, in Kagoshima Prefecture. His real name was Kunikata Shinohara, and he was also known by the pen names Mitō and Unhiko. Shinohara gained recognition for his work in the genre of free verse haiku, which does not adhere to traditional seasonal themes. He passed away on September 11, 1936, leaving a legacy in modern haiku literature.
