He is recognized for his significant achievements in exploration, including summiting Mount Everest in 1995, skiing to the South Pole in 1994, and walking to the North Pole in 2005. Additionally, he became the first person to reach all three poles and cross the Bering Strait and Greenland. Hong is a National Geographic Explorer and featured in the book 'Explorers-amazing tales of the world's greatest adventures' published in 2019.
