Holger Martens is a German veterinarian born on September 8, 1943, in Wilster. He studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover from 1966 to 1971. After earning his doctorate and habilitation, he served as an academic advisor at the University until 1988, when he became a professor of veterinary physiology at the Free University of Berlin, a position he held until 2010. Martens gained attention in 2015 for his criticism of high-performance cattle breeding.
