Hobart Merritt Van Deusen was an American naturalist known for his ornithological expeditions. In the 1950s, he collaborated with Ernst Mayr on a bird expedition to Goodenough Island, located off the coast of Papua New Guinea. During this expedition, he discovered the black dorcopsine, a small forest-dwelling kangaroo species that is endemic to the island.
