Hisatake Katō (born May 18, 1937) is a Japanese philosopher and ethicist, notable for his work in ethics and philosophy. He is an emeritus professor at Kyoto University and the first president of Tottori University of Environmental Studies. He has contributed significantly to German idealism, particularly Hegel and Schelling. Katō introduced bioethics to Japan in the 1980s and has engaged actively in environmental ethics. His notable works include 'Hegel's Philosophy of Law' (1993) and 'Introduction to New Environmental Ethics' (2005). He has received awards such as the Yamazaki Award for Philosophy in 1979.
