Hiroomi Yamada was a celebrated Japanese long jumper, born on March 4, 1942, and passing away on October 21, 1981. He represented Japan in the long jump event at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics. Yamada made history by becoming the first Asian athlete to achieve a jump of eight metres, which he accomplished with a sensational leap of 8.01 metres at Odawara on June 7, 1970. His contributions to athletics are remembered, particularly his groundbreaking performance in the long jump.
