Himanta Biswa Sarma, born on February 1, 1969, is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Assam. He has been elected five times to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Jalukbari constituency, first as a member of the Indian National Congress in 2001, 2006, and 2011, and later as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2016 and 2021. Sarma joined the BJP in August 2015 and was sworn in as a cabinet minister on May 24, 2016. He was elected Chief Minister of Assam in 2021.
