Count Higashifushimi Kunihide was a prominent figure in the Imperial House of Japan, being the titular head of the Higashifushimi-no-miya branch. Born on May 16, 1910, he was the youngest brother of Empress Kōjun and uncle to Emperor Emeritus Akihito. In addition to his royal lineage, he was a Buddhist monk. He lived to the age of 103, and had he retained his Imperial status, he would have been the longest-lived member of the Imperial family. His Dharma name was Jigō.
