Hēmi Pōtatau was a New Zealand Presbyterian minister, soldier, and writer born on 20 May 1904 in Nūhaka, Hawke's Bay. He was of Māori descent and identified with the Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Rākaipaaka iwi. Pōtatau contributed to the culture by authoring the Scots College haka in 1959. His life spanned significant periods in New Zealand's history, culminating in his death on 18 January 1994.
