Helmut Simon (November 11, 1937 - October 15, 2004) was a German amateur mountaineer, best known as the co-discoverer of Ötzi, the iceman. He was found along with his wife, Erika Simon, and they are recognized as the official finders of this significant archaeological find. Their discovery occurred in the Alps, near Bad Hofgastein, Austria, which led to extensive research on the prehistoric man, Ötzi, providing insights into life during the Copper Age.
