Elsa Helinä Tellervo Kangas, known by her pen name Helinä Salotie, was a Finnish children's author born on September 23, 1917, in Perho, Finland. She also wrote under the pseudonym Leena. Salotie became a qualified elementary school teacher in 1937 and later trained as a kindergarten teacher in 1947. She worked as a kindergarten teacher in Kokkola for over 30 years from 1945 to 1978. She was married to Josua Valfrid Kangas until his death in 1995.
