Heikki A. Alikoski was a Finnish astronomer born in Oulu in 1912 and passed away in Turku on December 28, 1997. A student of renowned Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä, he worked as an assistant at the Turku Observatory from 1937 to 1956, during which time he discovered 13 asteroids. One asteroid, (1567) Alikoski, is named in his honor after its discovery by Väisälä in 1941. Alikoski also contributed to the establishment of the Turku Astronomical-Optical Institute.
