Hatsuyo Oyama (March 10, 1912 - July 23, 1944) was the common-law wife of the notable Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai. Known as a geisha by the name Kōko, she was often called Hatsuko by Dazai. Oyama served as a model for a series of female characters in many of Dazai's works, including 'HUMAN LOST' (1937), 'Ubasute' (1938), and 'Tokyo Eight Views' (1941). Her life and influence on Dazai's writing are significant in Japanese literature, representing the complexities of his personal relationships.
