Harrison Hagan "Jack" Schmitt, born on July 3, 1935, is an American geologist, retired NASA astronaut, professor, and former senator from New Mexico. He holds the distinction of being the twelfth and last person to set foot on the moon during the Apollo 17 mission. Schmitt is notable for being the last surviving crew member of this landmark lunar mission. He was part of Astronaut Group 4 and has made significant contributions to space exploration and science throughout his career.
