Harold Masursky (1922-1990) was an American geologist and astronomer known for his significant contributions to planetary science. He studied at Yale University and worked for eleven years with the US Geological Survey before joining NASA. At NASA, Masursky focused on lunar and planetary surfaces, selecting landing sites for capsules and unmanned probes. He was part of the Apollo program and led a team during the Mars observations by the Mariner 9 spacecraft. He also selected landing sites for the Viking missions and contributed to radar studies of Venus. Two celestial features are named in his honor.
