Hansjörg Wirz, born on June 9, 1943, is a former Swiss athlete and long-time sports administrator. He served as the president of the European Athletic Association from 1999 to 2015. Wirz was a successful hurdler, winning Swiss championships and entering international competitions including the 1969 European Championships and the 1972 Olympic Games. He also held records in the 400m hurdles. In addition to his athletic career, he worked in sports marketing and held significant positions including Switzerland's Olympic team head and meeting director for Zurich's sporting event.
