Hans Albrecht Bethe (July 2, 1906 – March 6, 2005) was a German-American theoretical physicist known for significant contributions to astrophysics, quantum electrodynamics, and solid-state physics. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1967 for his work on the theory of stellar nucleosynthesis. During World War II, Bethe led the Theoretical Division at the Los Alamos laboratory, playing a crucial role in the development of the atomic bomb. He later campaigned against nuclear testing and the arms race alongside Albert Einstein. Bethe continued publishing scientific articles into his nineties.
