Hugh Edmund Peter de Mel (1907–1992) was a Ceylonese politician and businessman, known for founding the Lanka Light Match factory in Moratuwa. His political career began with his election to the Sri Lankan Parliament as a member of the United National Party in 1952, representing Talawake. Although he lost a subsequent election in 1956 while contesting in Moratuwa, de Mel remained active in business, serving on the Executive Council of the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries as Deputy Chairman during the 1960s.
