H.D.S. Haverbeck was a prominent philatelist and philatelic journalist, known for his expertise in Indian philately, particularly regarding India, Tibet, and Nepal. He served on the editorial board of Collectors Club Philatelist from 1948 to 1986, and became editor in 1970. He was awarded the Lichtenstein medal in 1966 and inducted into the American Philatelic Society's Hall of Fame in 1987. Haverbeck wrote extensively, contributed to handbooks, and participated in the Expert Committee of the Philatelic Foundation.
