He started his professional career in 1983 after being selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA draft. Standing 6 feet 11 inches tall, he played as a center. Throughout his career until his retirement in 1990, Waiters played for several teams, including the Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, and also had stints in Spain with FC Barcelona and C.A.B.L.A.
