Gottfried Meir was an SS-Untersturmführer involved in the mass murder of Jews in Italy in September 1943. Under his command, members of the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler executed the Jewish family Ettore Ovazza, who were attempting to flee to Switzerland. The family was intercepted and later murdered. The perpetrators disposed of the bodies in a gruesome manner. The motives behind this act were rooted in anti-Semitism and possibly greed.
