Stig Görgen Sökare, born January 6, 1948, is a prominent practitioner of Shotokan karate (JKS) and one of only two non-Japanese to achieve the rank of 8th dan. He founded Turebergs karateklubb in 1975 in Stockholm and became the first Swede to achieve the 8th dan in December 2016. He began training in Shotokan karate on January 25, 1973, received his black belt in 1977, and has been an influential coach, leading junior and women’s national teams to multiple successes in the 1980s.
