Glyn Jones was a Welsh novelist, poet, and literary historian born on February 28, 1905, in Merthyr Tydfil. He was raised in a Welsh-speaking family but educated in English. His first poetry collection was published in 1939, followed by several others, as well as short story collections and three novels: 'The Valley, The City, The Village' (1956), 'The Learning Lark' (1960), and 'The Island of Apples' (1965). He served as president of the Welsh Academy.
