Glenn Shafer is an American mathematician born on November 21, 1946, in Caney, Kansas. He co-founded the Dempster-Shafer theory by advancing Arthur P. Dempster's approaches to generalizing Bayesian statistics. Shafer studied at Princeton University, where he earned an A.B. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics. He taught at Princeton before moving to the University of Kansas in 1976, where he initially taught mathematics and later transitioned to economics in 1984. In 1992, he joined the Rutgers Business School in Newark and New Brunswick.
