Gikyō Itō was a prominent Japanese Iranologist and Zoroastrian scholar, born on February 23, 1909. He served as a distinguished professor at Kyoto University and also taught at Osaka University. His academic focus included Sanskrit, Avestan, and Pahlavi languages, as well as Zoroastrianism. Throughout his career, Itō made significant contributions to the understanding of Mazdaism in Japan, leaving behind a valuable body of work on the subject. He passed away on October 23, 1996.
