He researched the deformation of bone cells and made significant contributions to understanding osteoporosis and bone loss. He helped formulate Fosamax, a compound that inhibits osteoclasts to reduce bone fragility. Rodan led the department of oral biology at the University of Connecticut and later served as director of bone biology at Merck Research Laboratories. He published extensively, including the book 'Principles of Bone Biology' in 1996. He passed away on January 1, 2006.
