Ghulam-Sarwar Yousof (21 November 1939 – 10 November 2022) was a Malaysian academic, writer, and expert in traditional Malay and Southeast Asian theatre. He was also one of the leading writers of Malaysian English Literature. He received his PhD in 1976 from the University of Hawaii with a dissertation on the ancient mak yong dance theatre. He served as Head of the Performing Arts program at the University of Science Malaysia (USM) until 1995 and then joined the Cultural Centre of the University of Malaya (UMCC) as Professor in theatre studies. He was involved in numerous cultural organizations in Malaysia and internationally. Yousof was known for his research on traditional Southeast Asian theatre, Asian literatures, folklore studies, and South- and Southeast Asian cultures. He published three collections of verse, three full-length plays, and several short stories. He also translated poetry from Urdu and Persian into English. He was involved in the UNESCO project to gain recognition for the mak yong dance theatre of Malaysia as an Item of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005.
