Gerd Osten was a Swedish film critic, author, and director, born on December 23, 1914, in Gothenburg. She wrote under the pen name Pavane. Osten, daughter of a physician, pursued language studies abroad and worked as a journalist. She faced severe mental health issues later in life, which influenced her daughter, filmmaker Suzanne Osten. Gerd Osten was married twice, first to cultural journalist Tord Bæckström, then to Karl Osten. She passed away on October 5, 1974, and is buried in Råcksta cemetery.
