He played for clubs including Lyon, with whom he won the French Championship in 1955, and Roanne, where he won his second title in 1960. Dautant represented the French national team, earning a cap in 1961 against New Zealand. He was born on January 28, 1929, in Lavardac and passed away on March 26, 2012, in Nérac. His brother, Gilbert Dautant, was also involved in rugby league administration.
