George Pratt Shultz (December 13, 1920 - February 6, 2021) was an American economist, statesman, and businessman. He served in various roles in the administrations of three different Republican presidents and was one of only two persons to serve in four different cabinet positions. Shultz was born in New York City, graduated from Princeton University, and served in the Navy during World War II. He earned a PhD in industrial economics from MIT. Known for pushing for civil rights in labor practice, Shultz also played a key role in U.S.-Soviet relations during his tenure as Secretary of State.
