He held key positions such as Superintendent at the Telecommunications Research Establishment, Deputy Director of the National Physical Laboratory, and Director of the Royal Radar Establishment. As the first Controller of Research in the Ministry of Technology, he managed a vast network of government laboratories. In 1970, he streamlined defence research establishments and was knighted in 1971, continuing professional activities post-retirement until 2007.
