Charles John George Eastman was a Canadian and American chess player of Swedish descent, born on March 4, 1903, in Stockholm. He moved to Toronto after leaving Sweden. His most notable achievement during his time in Canada was tying for 1st to 3rd place with M. Fox and J. Morrison at the 1931 Canadian Championship, with Fox ultimately winning after a tiebreaker match. In 1932, he relocated to Detroit and participated in several U.S. Open Championships. Eastman won the Michigan State Championship eight times between 1933 and 1952.
