George Cowling was the BBC's first television weatherman who made significant contributions to weather broadcasting. He began his career at the Met Office in 1939, later serving as a forecaster for the RAF. Cowling's notable achievement came on January 11, 1954, when he delivered the first televised weather report. He continued his broadcasting work until 1957 and afterward returned to the RAF. Cowling also held positions at the Met Office College and Heathrow Airport, ultimately retiring in 1981.
