Georg Solti, born György Stern (October 21, 1912 – September 5, 1997), was a Hungarian-born conductor known for his work with opera companies in Munich, Frankfurt, and London, and as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Born in Budapest, he studied under prominent composers and fled Hungary in 1938 due to anti-Jewish laws. After World War II, he became music director of major orchestras and opera companies, earning a distinguished reputation and numerous accolades, including 31 Grammy Awards and the Royal Opera title for Covent Garden. He is renowned for his acclaimed recordings, particularly Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen.
