Solås founded SOLAAS LLC in New York City, later merging with Packetalk LLC, focusing on digital communication systems. He served as chief conductor and director of Det Norske Blåseensemble from 2005 to 2011. Solås has received numerous awards for his contributions to music, including the Jack Kreiselman Award in 1998 for musical composition.
