Gastone Piccinini was an Italian partisan born on April 22, 1915, in Trieste. He served as a second-class radiotelegraph operator in the Navy and actively participated in the liberation movement. To evade capture by Nazi-fascists, he jumped from the fifth floor of a building in Milan with fellow fighter Sergio Tavernari, who died in the fall. Piccinini survived but lost the use of his legs.
