Galina Kolpakova was a Soviet and Russian art historian born on February 18, 1955, and passed away on October 25, 2006, in Moscow. She was a candidate of art history and a professor at the Department of General History of Arts at the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Kolpakova specialized in Byzantine and ancient Russian art, and authored works on early icons, the ensemble of St. Sophia in Kyiv, 13th-14th century Novgorod frescoes, and the mosaics of the St. Catherine Monastery in Sinai.
