Gabe Newell, commonly known as Gaben, is an American computer programmer and businessman born on November 3, 1962. He is best known as the co-founder of Valve, a video game development and digital distribution company. After attending Harvard University briefly, he worked at Microsoft, producing early versions of Windows. Inspired by his experiences with video games, Newell, along with his partner Mike Harrington, left Microsoft in 1996 to establish Valve, where he continues to serve as president.
