An esteemed educator in the RSFSR, he held a candidate of pedagogical sciences degree. He was influenced by A.S. Makarenko's ideas on collective organization and established many school traditions that became widely acknowledged across the Soviet Union, such as Knowledge Day and ceremonies for the first and last school bells.
