Fusashige Suzuki was a Japanese long-distance runner born on February 15, 1914, in Tochigi Prefecture. He held the marathon world record for four days and participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics in the 10,000 meters, although illness prevented him from competing in the marathon. He was renowned in Japan for his participation and results in the popular Ekiden relay representing the University of Japan team. Suzuki died in 1945 during the Pacific War in the South China Sea, shortly before the end of World War II.
