He gained prominence for his critical new editions of operas, notably Carmen by Georges Bizet (Alkor Edition, 1964) and Hoffmann's Tales by Jacques Offenbach in 1976. His work included detailed critical reports, known as 'Vorlagenberichte', which provided important insights into these operas.
