Friedl Mutschlechner was an accomplished professional mountaineer from South Tyrol, born on October 14, 1949, in Brunico. He achieved numerous first ascents and solo climbs in the Dolomites and Western Alps, as well as summiting several eight-thousanders in the Himalayas. Tragically, he lost his life during a failed expedition on the 8,163 m Manaslu when he was struck by lightning while descending. Mutschlechner is remembered for being a mentor to renowned climber Hans Kammerlander, particularly in rock climbing.
