Friedhelm Schmitz-Jersch is a German lawyer and former state secretary, born on March 24, 1947, in Dortmund. He hails from the Ruhr area and studied law. Early in his career, he worked for the SPD faction in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament. After the reunification of Germany, he served as managing director for the SPD parliamentary group in Brandenburg, subsequently transitioning to the state administration where he became the state secretary for environment and regional planning until 2004. In retirement, he participates in various organizations including the German Traffic Watch and the Nature Conservation Union of Germany.
