Fredrick Lemuel "Fred" McKissack, Sr. (August 12, 1939 – April 28, 2013) was an influential African-American writer renowned for his extensive collaboration with his wife, Patricia C. McKissack. Together, they authored over 100 children's books that focus on African American history. Their contributions to literature earned them the 2014 American Library Association Coretta Scott King – Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement, received posthumously by Fredrick after his passing in 2013.
