Frédéric Merkt (b. July 12, 1966) is a Swiss chemist specializing in physical chemistry and a professor at ETH Zurich. He earned his chemistry diploma at ETH Zurich in 1988 and completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 1992. After a postdoctoral stint at various institutions, including Stanford University, he became an assistant professor in 1995 and a full professor in 1999. Merkt's research focuses on the electronic structure and dynamics of molecules and atoms, utilizing high-resolution spectroscopy. He has received several prestigious awards for his contributions to science.
