He served in the Korps Speciale Troepen after training at Camp Casino, Australia, and earned several honors for his military efforts in Indonesia and Korea. Ormskerk was involved in the violent political turmoil in Suriname and attempted a counter-coup following Dési Bouterse's takeover. Tragically, he was arrested, tortured, and killed in May 1980.
