Frans de Haas is a Dutch classical philologist and historian of philosophy, born in 1963. He studied classical philology at the University of Leiden, where he earned his PhD in 1995 with a dissertation on John Philoponus’ representation of first matter. He has held research fellowships at the Institute of Classical Studies in London and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. De Haas has served as an assistant professor and is currently a professor of ancient and medieval philosophy at Leiden University, focusing on Aristotle's philosophy and Neoplatonism.
