Sir Frank Whittle (1907 - 1996) was a British aeronautical engineer recognized as the father of the jet engine. He was educated at Cambridge and later joined the Royal Air Force, where he began research and development of jet engines. His groundbreaking work in the 1930s led to the invention of the jet engine, enabling faster air travel. Whittle filed his patent in 1930 and tested the first engine in 1937. He retired in 1948 as a Group Captain and became a professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, passing away on August 9, 1996.
